PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for testing the thickening of an ink capable of detecting the thickening of the ink at a low cost. SOLUTION: The ink thickening test is started by pushing the ink thickening test button of a printer 10 by a user (S401), and when the ink thickening test is started, a temperature humidity sensor 126 detects the temperature and the humidity in (or the surrounding of) the printer 10 first (S402). Then, an exposure time is decided from table 2, based on the temperature and the humidity thus detected (S403), a recording head 22K in stand-by is moved to the printing position (test position) (S404), and the state in which the recording head 22K is moved to the printing position (the state in which the ink ejection port 22Kt is exposed) is kept (S405) only for the exposure time decided by S403.
