PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid handing device which can attain a simplified constitution by commonizing parts of a discharge mechanism of a liquid container and a valve opening and closing device, and to provide a liquid jet apparatus equipped therewith. SOLUTION: The valve opening and closing device 50 for opening and closing a passage valve incorporated in a holder 20 is fixed to a rear face of the cartridge holder 20 to which an ink cartridge 30 is coupled. A valve opening and closing lever 53 of the valve opening and closing device 50 is set at a projection position shown by a chain line in the figure through a recess 20a of the holder 20 by an urging force of a torsion coil spring 58. When the cartridge 30 is loaded, the valve opening and closing lever 53 is pressed by the cartridge 30 and disposed at a retreat position shown by a solid line in the figure. In a state of the retreat position, the valve opening and closing lever 53 is positionally set to come in contact with a width direction center part of the cartridge 30. When the cartridge 30 is released from securing, the cartridge 30 is pressed by the valve opening and closing lever 53 and pushed out to an attachment and detachment direction outside.
