PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which can arrange a liquid crystal display element, a surface light source, and a viewing surface protective plate, all en bloc, within a case. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display module 9 comprises a liquid crystal display element 10, a surface light source 17, and a viewing surface protective plate 25. The liquid crystal display element 10 is fixed to the surface light source 17. A spacer 27 is formed between the liquid crystal display element 10 and the viewing surface protective plate 25 surrounding the area corresponding to the screen of the liquid crystal display element 10, and an elastic layer 29 is filled in the area surrounded by the spacer 27 in the gap between the liquid crystal display element 10 and the viewing surface protective plate 25. In the liquid crystal display module 9 which is built as above, the viewing surface protective plate 25 is inserted into an aperture 2 of a case 1, and the surface light source 17 is arranged by fixing to the module support 3 formed in the case 1.
