PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic transducer that does not require interposition of a new partition member or the like inside a flow channel or installation of an excessive member in a recessed part of the flow channel in an ultrasonic flowmeter, and can accurately calculate the flow velocity of fluid to be measured and calculate the flow rate even when the flow velocity distribution varies in a flow rate zone. SOLUTION: This ultrasonic transducer 10 has a plurality of piezoelectric elements (represented in piezoelectric elements 121 and 122) and an acoustic matching layer 11. The ultrasonic transducer 10 simultaneously operates the piezoelectric elements 121 and 122, and varies the deformation form of a radiation surface S of the acoustic matching layer 11, thus varies the directivity characteristic of an ultrasonic beam radiated from the radiation surface S, and uniformly diffuses the ultrasonic beam in the direction parallel to the radiation surface S. A pair of the ultrasonic transducers 10 are arranged in the ultrasonic flowmeter while aligning the direction parallel to the radiation surface S to the width direction of the flow channel.
