The invention relates to communication mode switching in a mobile network during a change in radio coverage. According to the invention, interfaces (IST, ISRR1) connect a terminal (TA) to a radio access network (RRA) which is connected to a core network (RCA) and a remote terminal (TB). A call service request relating to a first communication mode is transmitted from the terminal to the core network. A management module (GSAR) establishes an access support (CD1, CD2) which supports two communication modes and which transfers data frames between the terminal and the core network using the first communication mode. The first communication mode switches to a second communication mode if a communication mode switching criterion has been met, in order to transfer data frames using the second communication mode while the first communication mode is maintained between the core network and the remote terminal.
