PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hermetic compressor capable of being efficiently manufactured in the same manufacturing line without requiring change of the thickness of a closed vessel even when using different types of refrigerants. SOLUTION: In the high-pressure type hermetic compressor wherein a stator of an electric motor is shrink-fitted to the closed vessel, a closed vessel barrel part steel plate material with stress at yield varying with discharge pressure of a refrigerant to be used is selected, and the thickness of a barrel part is not changed even when the refrigerant is changed. Thus, the hermetic compressor can be efficiently manufactured in the same manufacturing line without changing the thickness of the closed vessel even when the refrigerant to be used is changed.
