A system for acquiring contents and a method thereof are provided to make a local server transmit a portion of contents or contents-related information to a client terminal. A client terminal(110) photographs or records a portion of contents selected according to a user's input, and then transmits the partial information to a selected local server(120). The local server analyzes the partial information received from the client terminal to search contents corresponding to the partial information or contents-related information, and then transmits the search result to the client terminal. The local server displays or reproduces the contents through one or more output units. According to the input of a user, the client terminal photographs or records the partial information of the displayed or reproduced contents.
