METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF GLASSY MONOLITHS VIA THE SOL-GEL PROCESS

A method for manufacturing a glass monolith through a sol-gel process is provided to manufacture high yield and high purity of glass even in an unclean oven. A method for manufacturing a glass monolith through a sol-gel process comprises the following steps of: adding silica in water to prepare a dispersed solution, wherein the silica is manufactured in acidic pH; adding silicone tetra alkoxide to the dispersed solution; adjusting the pH of the dispersed solution; leaving the obtained sol solution to stand in a container; obtaining wet gel from the sol; drying the wet gel to obtain Xerogel; and sintering the dried Xerogel to obtain a glass product. The adjusted pH is within the range of 4.0 to 5.0. The wet gel is dried under the condition of less than 70°C and more than 50% of humidity.
