<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starter capable of re-starting an engine even when an electronic key is taken out by a fellow passenger, and reliably preventing the start permission of the engine from being maintained even after a door is locked. <P>SOLUTION: A storage means 51 is provided, which stores the result of determination for the engine start permission when the condition of a door is changed from an opened condition to a closed condition while an engine is in operation, and any normal portable machines 10A-10D are not present in a cabin. When an ON signal is input from an engine start switch 33 and the result of the permission determination is stored in a storage means 51, a main control unit 50 skips the operations from the transmission of the request signal from in-cabin transmission means 40A, 40B, and outputs the operation signal for the engine start permission to an engine control unit 23.
