PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high quality image liquid crystal display which can improve the blurred moving images caused by the divided lighting of the back light over the whole screen and reduce noises often appearing on the display screen when making PWM light control of the back light synchronizing with the vertical synchronizing frequency. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display has a liquid crystal panel having a gate driver circuit to sequentially scan and drive the gate wiring connected to the pixel TFTs, a back light divided into N pieces in the scanning direction of the gate driver to independently control lighting, and a timing control circuit of the image signals to change the synchronizing signal frequency of the image signals and the image signal phase against the synchronizing signals and to output them to the liquid crystal panel. It sequentially turns on and off the back light divided into N pieces synchronizing with the vertical synchronizing signals inputted to the liquid crystal panel and changes the frequency of the horizontal synchronizing signals inputted to the liquid crystal panel within a frame corresponding to the dividing of the back light.
