[PROBLEMS] Conventional portable telephones having keys and cursor moving means arranged on both narrow sides have involved a problem that if the display is enlarged in the longitudinal direction of the body, the hands of the operator hide the display when the display is rotated by 90°, the operator cannot view the whole display, and the display cannot be enlarged. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A portable telephone comprises a hinge mechanism enabling the display to be rotated by about 90° from its held state and a mechanism enabling the display to be slid to the center axis around which the display can be rotated by about 90°. Hence, when the operator carries out key input with the operator's ten fingers, the hands do not overlap with the display. Therefore the portable telephone can have a large display.
