A ruthenium II polypyridyl complex is provided to produce a fluorescence dye of pH sensor and composition for pH sensor of which fluorescence intensity changes in the range of pH 2 - 10. A ruthenium II polypyridyl complex is denoted by the chemical formula 1. In the chemical 1, R is hydrogen or alkyl of C1-C4, R is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, i-propyl, n-butyl, i-butyl or t-butyl, and X is selected from Cl-, Br-, I-, NO3-, CN-, ClO4-, CH3CO2-, CF3CO2-, CF3SO3-, p-(CH3)C6H4SO3-, BF4- or PF6-.
