<p>PURPOSE: To obtain new benzocycloalkens having excellent affinity for melatonine receptor and useful as a preventing and treating agent for diseases related to action of melatonin. CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [R<1> and R<2> are each H, a substitutable hydrocarbon group, a substitutable heterocyclic group or R<1> and R<2> form a substitutable spiro ring together with adjacent C; R<3> is a substitutable hydrocarbon group, a substitutable NH2 , a substitutable OH or a substitutable heterocyclic group; R<4> is H or a substitutable lower alkyl; ring A is a substituted benzene ring; (m) and (n) are each 1-4] or its salt. e.g. (S)-1-[2- -(trifluoroacetylamino)ethyl]-6-methoxyindane. The compound is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II or its salt with a carboxylic acid of the formula R<3> COOH or its salt or its reactive derivative. The compound is used as a biological rhythm controller, a sleep-awakening rhythm controller, a jet lag controller or a sleep disorder treating agent.</p> |
