The invention relates to a method for producing gypsum slabs comprising the following steps: hydratable calcium sulphate and water are supplied to a first mixer (2) and a second mixer (3); a facing (5) is provided; a first gypsum paste is prepared in the first mixer (2); a second gypsum paste is prepared in the second mixer (3); the first gypsum paste is applied to the facing and a raw surface layer is formed; the second gypsum paste is applied to the raw surface layer and a raw core layer is formed having a smaller density than the density of the raw surface layer; a gypsum slab is formed; the slab is hydrated and dried. The inventive method is used to control independently the formation of different layers of plaster. The invention also relates to a slab production unit (1).
