<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for treating wastewater capable of accommodating the daily fluctuations of water quality wherein a regulation tank is not indispensable. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for treating the wastewater includes a process in which wastewater 4 to be treated in the method is prepared by returning purified water 2 which is wastewater that has been treated to wastewater 1 before the treatment and mixing them. The amount of the purified water 2 to be mixed with the wastewater 1 before the treatment is determined so that the concentration index and the quantity of flow of the wastewater 4 to be treated may be within the prescribed range which is suitable for the treatment according to the treatment method. Meanwhile, the concentration index of the wastewater 4 is detected by a sensor and the amount of the purified water 2 to be returned to the wastewater 1 and that to be discharged from the system are controlled so that the concentration index of the wastewater 4 may be within the prescribed range.
