A holster 10 for a broken breech-loading shotgun 12 comprises a channel 14 that is generally U-shaped as viewed along the channel and that bends through an angle of about 30 to 50 degrees when viewed from the side such that the broken shotgun can be placed in and supported by the channel with its stock 48 projecting rearwardly and with the fore-end 46 and barrel(s) 44 projecting forwardly. At least one strap 16, 18 is attached to the channel and extends upwardly to form a loop that can be worn over a shot's shoulder 40 such that the holster is positioned to the side of the shot's waist. The holster can therefore be used to carry the broken gun at the side of the shot's waist. The weight is borne by the shot's shoulder rather than around the shot's waist. The centre of gravity of a typical broken shotgun is usually below or below and very slightly in front of the cross-pin, and the holster therefore stably supports the gun both in front of and behind its centre of gravity. The sides of the channel prevent the gun falling sideways from the holster. |
