A suggested method provides for the use of polymers with the pendant groups or end groups containing - Si(OR")3, wherein R" is H, an alkyl group, Na, K, or NH4 for control formation of aluminosilicate scale in a Bayer process. When materials of the present invention are added to the Bayer liquor to the heat exchanger, they reduce and even completely prevent formation of aluminosilicate scale on heat exchanger walls. The present materials are effective at operating concentrations that make them economically in practice.
