The present invention relates to a content providing device comprising: a communication unit to perform communication with an external device; an image processing unit to generate a compressed image by image-processing an inputted original image; and a control unit to divide the original image into at least one areas based on the image quality of the original image, detect characteristic information from the each are and control the communication unit to transmit the detected characteristic information with the compressed image to the external device. As such, a display device according to an embodiment of the present invention is able to perform a process of improving image quality to increase the quality as close as the original image by extracting information necessary for a production and encoding step before transmitting the image and simultaneously transmitting the information with the compressed image.
