<PICT:0348138/III/1> Antimony oxide is obtained by leading powdered antimony or ores &c. containing antimony into a current of gas or vapour which is then burnt by means of oxygen or air. Alternatively the powdered material is led into a combustion space and burnt by flames of coal dust, gas, or oil fuel. Oxide or sulphide ores or impure oxides or mixtures of sulphide and oxide ores may be used in the process. Reaction may be effected in a pear-shaped furnace a into which combustible gases or vapours or coal dust flames are blown through burners b. Material to be oxidized mixed with preheated compressed air introduced through e, is introduced into the furnace through d and is held in suspension in the jet of flame. The flaked or finely divided oxide obtained is drawn off at g. Dross which melts is removed at f and may be returned to the process in admixture with concentrated ore. Specifications 25477/98, [Class 1, Acids, alkalies, &c.], and 163,623, [Class 1 (iii), Oxides &c. Metallic], are referred to.
|
