Denture adhesive hydrogel with dry tack

A dry tack denture adhesive hydrogel comprising a mixed salt of a copolymer of alkyl vinyl ether and maleic anhydride or maleic acid, a hygroscopic nonionic polymer, and water is provided. A method for preparation of the denture adhesive hydrogel is also disclosed.

1. A denture adhesive hydrogel comprising:
(a) a mixed salt of a copolymer of alkyl vinyl ether, and (i) maleic anhydride or (ii) maleic acid,
wherein the mixed salt comprises monovalent and multivalent cationic salts selected from the group consisting of sodium, calcium, zinc, strontium, ferric and mixtures thereof; (b) a dry tack enhancing agent being polyvinylpyrrolidone, and optionally one or both of polyethylene oxide and a cellulose derivative, wherein the dry tack agent is in an amount of about 0.1% to less than 5.0% by weight of the hydrogel; and (c) water, wherein the hydrogel has a dry tack physical characteristic.
