Method, apparatus and system for use in dental procedures

A method and system are provided for providing patient data useful for dental procedures, including scanning a dental structure of a patient when coupled to a geometric structure to provide a virtual model representative of the coupling and the dental structure, and relating the virtual model to a body reference of the patient.

1. A computer-implemented method for providing a spatial relationship of at least part of a dental structure of a patient with respect to a sagittal plane of the patient, comprising:
(a) receiving digital scan data representing a virtual model of a composite of at least a part of a dental structure coupled with a geometric structure that is aligned with a sagittal plane of a patient, thereby providing a composite virtual model, wherein the digital scan data is generated by scanning the part of the dental structure coupled with the geometric structure with a suitable optical scanner; and (b) determining, using a computer system, a spatial relationship between the part of the dental structure and the sagittal plane of the patient based on the coupling between at least part of the dental structure and the geometric structure and the alignment of the geometric structure with the sagittal plane of the patient.
