Apparatus to maintain tension in a lace, string and the like while tying a bow or knot in footware, packages or bundles, comprises a pair of cooperating faces 5c (preferably convex) spaced apart and held together at their base to define space 5d (preferably V-shaped) for receiving the lace ends. At least one face provides a frictional locking force on the lace when in the space. In use the lace is intertwined to form the first part of the bow or knot and drawn under tension into space 5d. Frictional force maintains tension in the lace even if the ends are relaxed. The free ends of the lace may then be secured separately. Alternatively, the space is dimensioned such that the remainder of the bow can be tied and pulled tightly onto the intertwined portion to maintain tension. The space 5d may have flared ends to facilitate lace/string exit or entry. A lace/string hole 3 may be arranged to retain the apparatus on a lace, and may have a gap in the circumference to pass a lace. An elasticated member or a slot may secure free lace ends and/or bow loops. |
