Bridge fitting for modular surface mount system

A bridge fitting for a fluid manifold system comprises a housing with a first port connected to a second port by an internal fluid passageway with at least one projection extending from the housing. The bridge fitting may be mounted in a channel block having a groove and an aligned hole for receiving the projection. Surface mounted components such as a check valve with a planar mounting flange having a central inlet and an adjacent outlet may be attached to the channel block for connection to other components by the bridge fitting. At least one of the ports has a recess or counterbore 56 within which a seal, e.g. an O-ring, is retained prior to assembly by its engagement with the recess walls. The recess may have smaller diameter than the seal. To allow the seal to compress the recess may have an inclined R surface or flat sidewalls spaced by less than the seal diameter with a larger non-flat dimension.
