Use of hyperforin or St. John's Wort in the treatment and prevention of metabolic syndrome

The invention relates to the use of hyperforin, its derivatives or a hyperforin-containing extract of Hypericum perforatum L. (St. John's Wort) for the manufacture of a pharamaceutical composition for the treatment or prevention of Metabolic Syndrome and to a method of treating or preventing Metabolic Syndrome by administering to a patient in need of such treatment an effective amount of hyperforin, its derivatives or a hyperforin-containing extract of Hypericum perforatum L (St. John's Wort).
