<p>An item of street furniture, such as a lamp post 11 or an illuminated road sign, has an electrical coupling 108 to provide power to an electrical load such as a light. The coupling may be remote from the item and is preferably underground. If the item is damaged in an accident, the coupling is pulled apart, for example by a lanyard 103, so that the damaged item contains no electrically live parts. The invention may be supplied as a kit. A similar arrangement may also be used to separate oil pipes.</p> |
