Reference marker application method for aiming a treatment beam at a cancer tumor in the prostate gland involves penetrating the catheter and/or the membrane and driving a reference marker into the glandular tissue

A catheter (9) is introduced through the urethra and is fixed near the prostate gland. A penetrating and guiding device (12) is guided by a reference marker (7) to penetrate the portion (9a) of the catheter and/or the side portion (13a) of the membrane (13) and to be inserted into the glandular tissue. Marker is moved and driven by a movement device (14) along the penetrating and guiding device and into the glandular tissue for permanent application of the marker. After applying the marker, the devices are drawn back to their original position and the catheter is drawn out from the urethra. An independent claim is also included for the instrument used in applying a reference marker in the prostate gland through the urethra.
