The device (1) has an elongated shaped element (3) made of positive temperature coefficient material, and two electrodes (4, 5) disposed on opposite parts more distant from the element. Heat exchanger units (6, 7) coupled to the element through electrically insulating and thermally conducting material exchange heat with a longitudinal part of the element. Fins, heat pipes and Peltier-effect cells of the heat exchanger units are disposed on longitudinal sides of the element. An independent claim is also included for a method for limiting current using a positive temperature coefficient element.
