PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve durability and reliability of a lash adjuster by reducing stress acting on a diaphragm. SOLUTION: A high pressure chamber 45 is formed by slidably fitting a plunger 42 in a body 41, and a reservoir chamber 56 is formed by energizing the plunger 42 in a projection direction by a plunger spring 50 and joining one end part of the diaphragm 51 to a body 41 and joining the other end thereof to the plunger 42. A communication passage 42c allowing movement of working fluid from the reservoir chamber 56 to the high pressure chamber 45 according to pressure in the high pressure chamber 45 is provided. The diaphragm 51 is installed in such a manner that the diaphragm 51 takes a natural shape on a roughly middle position of a movement stroke S of the plunger 42 to a body 41.
