PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for generating font data which prevent an increase in a printing speed from causing print quality to deteriorate, and a dot impact printer. SOLUTION: The font data generation method generates halftone font data by increasing the line width of a font of font data 2 for high-density printing by one dot, and generates font data for high-speed printing by thinning out data of odd number rows from the halftone font data every other line and thinning out data of even number rows for remaining lines. Since a thin segment or a circular arc having a width of one dot can be expressed by a connection of dots zigzaggedly arranged on font data for high-speed printing in the initial font data for high-density printing, practical print quality improves without decreasing a printing speed.
