<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of detecting a consumable cartridge which is not a quality guaranteed article and whose quality is not confirmed yet, and the consumable cartridge. <P>SOLUTION: The consumable cartridge interchangeably attached to the image forming apparatus has a consumables storage part in which the consumables are stored to be supplied, and a memory in which identification data is unrewritably stored and the attribute data of the consumable cartridge is rewritably stored. In this instance, the memory is readable by the image forming apparatus and further a first error detection code generated from the identification data and the attribute data is rewritably stored in the memory.
