<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more speedily and accurately search synchronism establishment regarding a positioning satellite signal. <P>SOLUTION: This receiver comprises a high-speed mode and a high-sensitivity mode. During the high-speed mode, a practical phase change width of a receiving-side spreading code is great when establishing synchronism for a spreading code of a received signal by detecting a correlation between the spreading code of the received signal from a satellite and the receiving-side spreading code while practically changing a phase of the receiving-side spreading code. During the high-sensitivity mode, the practical phase change width is small. A mode switching operation means is provided for accepting a switching selection operation of the high-speed mode and the high-sensitivity mode.
