PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning apparatus for surely removing any foreign matter stuck to the surface of an image pickup element without having any adverse influence on the surface of the image pickup element. SOLUTION: A cleaning apparatus 10 includes a roller 12 having velocity and a support member 14. The cleaning tool 10 is used for cleaning a light receiving face 30S of a CCD 30 installed in a single-lens reflex camera 40. A pair of ear shafts 16 are installed on a side face 14S of the supporting member 14. While the ear shafts 16 are engaged with a guide groove 44 of the single-lens reflex camera 40, the roller 12 is rotated so that a roller side face 12S can be brought into contact with a CCD light receiving face 30S, and that any foreign matter on the CCD light receiving face 30S can be removed.
