PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating device which enables a replacement of a coating solution in a short time, when the replacement of a coating solution becomes necessary due to alteration of a kind of a coating solution to be applied to a base material, to effectively avoid a drop in work efficiency due to the replacement of a coating solution, and also provide a method for replacing a coating solution in such a coating device. SOLUTION: A coating solution 7 adheres to a base material film 1, which is sequentially being sent, while holding the film 1 on the peripheral surface of a back roller 3. Then, when the base material film 1 is coated by regulating the thickness of a coat with a comma coater 4, a second back plate 5b is on standby when a first back plate 5a is arranged opposite to the back roller 3 across a certain gap, which allows the base material film 1 to pass, to form a part of a coating solution storage part 8.
