PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens which has aberrations satisfactorily corrected from a wide angle end state to a telephoto end state though having a high variable power ratio. SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes a first lens group G1 having a positive refractive power, a second lens group G2 having a negative refractive power, a third lens group G3 having a positive refractive power, a fourth lens group G4 having a negative refractive power, and a fifth lens group G5 having a positive refractive power, in order from the object side. When the power is varied from a wide-angle end state W to a telephoto end state T, the zoom lens satisfies a prescribed condition by the increase of an interval between the first lens group G1 and the second lens group G2, the decrease of an interval between the second lens group G2 and the third lens group G3, the increase of an interval between the third lens group G3 and the fourth lens group G4, and the decrease of an interval between the fourth lens group G4 and the fifth lens group G5.
