The safety switch rail has a reception body provided with contact elements (3,4) which are biased together at a number of contact points in the rest position and which are separated from one another upon application of an external force to the safety switch rail, via an insulating wedge element (5) of a material with a stable shape. The reception body acts as contact rails (1,2), the contact elements positioned transverse to the longitudinal axes of the latter, the elastic bias between them provided by a number of independent tensioning elements (6).
