<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily retain the transfer performance of a transfer unit, in an intermediate transfer system in which the transfer unit is disposed in a rotary support unit that is opened or closed. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a latent image carrier, an intermediate transfer belt, and a transfer member 3a for transferring an image on the intermediate transfer belt to a recording material. The image forming apparatus has the rotary support unit 5, which is disposed at one side of the main body 4 of the image forming apparatus so as to be freely rotated and opens or closes the main body of the image forming apparatus. The image forming apparatus also has the transfer unit 3. The transfer unit 3 is disposed in the rotary support unit 5, and has the transfer member 3a incorporated in a single unit case 3c. In addition, the transfer unit 3 is held by the rotary support unit 5 so that whole unit case 3c is moved such that when the rotary support unit 5 is closed, the transfer member 3a can be positioned in a positioning groove formed in the main body 4 of the image forming apparatus and also when the rotary support unit 5 is closed, the transfer member 3a is brought into contact with the intermediate transfer belt and separated therefrom. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
