PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized optical waveguide capable of suppressing light loss, an optical device, and to provide a method for manufacturing the optical waveguide. SOLUTION: A ridge structural part 3 is formed, by digging a substrate 2 at both sides or at an outer side of at least a bent part 1a, in the optical waveguide 1 formed by diffusing titanium. A film-like buffer layer consisting of silicon oxide or the like, having a refractive index smaller than that of the substrate 2 is provided on the side face 3a of the ridge structural part 3. The ridge structural part 3 confines the field of light by the side face 3a. The buffer layer suppresses scattering loss, and suppresses the optical loss in the bent part 1a. By providing the bent part 1a, the optical waveguide 1 can be folded back, and the optical device, in which the optical waveguide 1 is formed can be made small. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
