PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fully automate trapezoidal correction by a single device itself, even in the case of projecting an image on a screen set in a inclined manner. SOLUTION: The projector includes: a projection system including a micromirror element 36 and a projection lens 12, which form an optical image corresponding to an input image signal and project the optical image to a projection screen; a pair of imaging systems arranged at a prescribed distance, including a fist imaging lens 13 and a CCD 49, a second imaging lens 14 and a CCD 50 for imaging the image projected by the projection system together; and a control part 43 for calculating a distance and an angle to the projection screen from the phase difference of the images imaged by the pair of imaging systems and carrying out the trapezoidal correction of the image to be projected by the projection system on the basis of the obtained distance and angle to the projection screen.
