摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance adhesion between an inorganic orientation film and a sealant while reducing deterioration of quality of image display resulting from a photochemical reaction in a display area in an electro-optic device such as a liquid crystal device. SOLUTION: The electro-optic device is comprised of: a pair of first and second substrates which sandwich an electro-optic substance; an orientation film formed on at least one of the first and second substrates, comprised of inorganic materials having a silanol group and regulating an orientation state of the electro-optic substance; and a sealant which sticks the first and second substrates to each other in a seal area along the surroundings of a display area in which display is performed by the photoelectric substrate. Furthermore, a first part formed in the display area of the orientation film is at least partially subjected to surface treatment; a second part formed in the seal area of the orientation film is not at least partially subjected to the surface treatment, and the second part and the sealant are mutually coupled by covalent bonding in which the silanol group is at least partially and chemically reacted.
