DIGITAL VIDEO FORMAT DOWN-CONVERSION APPARATUS AND METHOD WITH OPTIONAL CONVERSION RATIO

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital video format down-conversion apparatus and method with optional conversion ratio.

SOLUTION: The apparatus is an efficient motion compensation apparatus for the digital video format down-conversion with a variable conversion ratio. The apparatus is characterized in an interpolation and interleaving filter derived by using many orthogonal conversions whose conversion size is variable and installed by using effective computation architecture. The computation architecture includes: an orthogonal conversion kernel selection means; a frequency component calculation means; a factor weighting means; and a pixel reconfiguration means. The simple architecture is invented for both interpolation and interleaving filter processes. As a result, shift and addition/subtraction operations are dramatically reduced and the method and apparatus is adapted to install an LSI for the video format down-conversion for a digital video system.
