<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connector for surface mounting having a structure which does not affect solder joining strength of a reed part against warpage and twisting of a housing. <P>SOLUTION: The connector 1c for surface mounting is provided with a rectangular parallelepiped housing 10, and a plate-like contact 11 arranged in parallel with the housing 10, and is mounted on a surface of a printed board 9. The contact 11 is provided with a reed part 11a and the reed part 11a which extend in mutually opposite directions. The reed part 11a has a surface of a plate thickness 1a to be solder joined to the surface of the printed board 9. A holding arm 11b has the tip part to extend nearly in parallel with the surface of a plate thickness 1a and to be inserted into the housing 10 from the opposite face of a recessed part 14.
