PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with all the control valves by a hydraulic switch, reduce cost, and suppress the rate of failure of the whole automatic transmission due to increase of the rate of failure of the hydraulic switch itself to improve reliability of a device. SOLUTION: This hydraulic controller for the automatic transmission is provided with a plurality of control valves 22 to 25 having a control oil pressure generation circuit for generating control oil pressure from line pressure PL in accordance with a current carrying condition and controlling engagement and non-engagement of friction engagement elements C1, C2, C3, B1, B2 corresponding by control oil pressure directly and the hydraulic switches SW1, SW2 for detecting operation of the control valves. Then, the control valves 22 to 25 have switching circuits switching oil passages and operating in the interlocking relationship with the control oil pressure generation circuit, the number of hydraulic switches SW1, SW2 is smaller than the number of control valves 22 to 25, and each switching circuit has dependence relation among the control valves 22 to 25 to connect the hydraulic switches SW1, SW2 with the switching circuits.
