PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high strength thin steel sheet having excellent rigidity which has a tensile strength of≥590 MPa, a yield ratio of≥0.65 and a Young's modulus of≥225 GPa; and to provide a production method therefor. SOLUTION: The high strength thin steel sheet has a composition comprising, by mass, 0.05 to 0.20% C,≤1.5% Si, 1.0 to 2.5% Mn,≤0.05% P,≤0.01% S,≤1.5% Al and≤0.01% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and has a microstructure where the average particle diameter of a ferritic phase is≤5μm, and further, the ferritic phase is present in≥50% by area, and in which the average ODF (Orientation Distribution Function) analysis strength f in the (113)[1-10] to (223)[1-10] orientation of the sheet face in the 1/4 sheet thickness of the steel sheet is≥4; wherein, [1-10] denotes the direction of (1, -1, 0).
