PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder which allows a user to select modes according to a user's request that the user attaches importance to an image quality instead of desiring a high speed image recording, or conversely, according to the user's request where the user desires high-speed recording, instead of attaching importance to the image quality, and which easily switches paper-feeding and carrying operation according to the mode selected. SOLUTION: A power transmission switching means 100 is arranged at an end part of carriage 13 in the moving direction, the means which switches a combination of rotation and stopping of a drive roller and a paper feed roller in a resist roller pair, into a continuous paper feed mode or an intermittent paper feed mode. The power transmission switching means 100 is operated by the movement of the carriage 13, and a control means is provided which controls, such that the continuous paper-feed mode and the intermittent paper-feed mode are selectively switched.
