The method involves providing fibers in a reinforced area (2), where the fibers have a preferential direction. The preferential direction is selected in such a manner that the preferential direction corresponds to the direction of high stress. The area has a trough edge (16) and the fibers are adjusted tangential to the trough edge and are formed by mechanical plastic deformation e.g. by extraction, where the fibers are made of steel. The fibers are sintered according to the adjustment. An independent claim is also included for a piston for an internal combustion engine.
