An embolic protection device including a core wire (24) and a basket (12) is disclosed. The basket includes struts (16) and a filter portion (14) formed from a cannula (15) . The struts extend from a first end (18) of the basket to the second end (20) of the basket. The filter portion extends from the struts and is formed unitarily therewith. The filter portion extends between a middle portion (22) of the basket and the second end of the basket and includes openings (17) in the cannula configured to allow the passage of blood cells therethrough .
