<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing cartridge capable of surely detecting that an agitator is broken, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Both ends of a rotary shaft 55 are formed to pierce through end walls 51a and 51b of a case, and a gear 63 being a driving member for transmitting driving force to the rotary shaft 55 is fixed at the driving end of the rotary shaft 55. A part to be detected 94 for making a detection part 93 arranged in a laser printer body 1 detect the rotating state of the rotary shaft 55 is provided at the driven end of the rotary shaft 55.
