<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diffractive optical element of splitting incident light into one 0 order transmission light ray and three +1 order light rays which have the same angle for the 0 order transmission light ray and have an intensity equal to one another, and to provide a method of manufacturing a photonic crystal by using the diffractive optical element. <P>SOLUTION: On the surface of the transparent substrate 2, protruded regular triangle regions 3 which have the same height and the same dimensions are repeatedly arranged in a cycle of the length of each side in each direction of the regular triangle, recessed regular triangle regions 4 which have the same depth, the same dimensions equal to those of the protruded regular triangle regions 3 and the opposite direction are repeatedly arranged in a cycle of the length of each side in each direction of the regular triangle among the protruded regular triangle regions 3, and the protruded regular triangle regions 3 and the recessed regular triangle regions 4 are arranged adjacenty one another and densely cover the surface of the transparent substrate 2. The diffractive optical element 1 has the retardation less than π with respect to reference wavelength light 11 made incident vertically on the transparent substrate 2 among the protruded regular triangle regions 3 and the recessed regular triangle regions 4 and is used for branching the reference wavelength light 11 made incident vertically on the transparent substrate 2 into four directions 12, 13. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
