PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a SAW device that prevents reduction in a Q value when the SAW device is used for a resonator and that avoids an increase in an insertion loss when the SAW device is used for a filter. SOLUTION: The SAW device formed by using a piezoelectric substrate 10 whose reciprocal velocity region with respect to a propagation direction of a SAW is concaved in the propagation direction includes: an interdigital electrode section 2 having IDT electrodes 11a, 11b; and grating sections 3a, 3b located in the outside of the interdigital electrode section 2 in an interdigital direction and having grating electrodes 12a, 12b, and the film thickness of the grating electrodes 3a, 3b is made thicker than that of the IDT electrodes 11a, 11b.
