PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection method for a magnetic recording disk by which the possibility of causing failure incapable of being found by a glide test when a magnetic head is made low in floating height can be reliably evaluated, and to provide the magnetic recording disk. SOLUTION: The position of an inspection head is transferred in a radial direction of the magnetic recording disk while rotating the magnetic recording disk 1 in such a state that the inspection head is disposed on the magnetic recording disk 1 at a floating height equal to or lower than the glide height regulating a floating distance of the magnetic head to the magnetic recording disk 1. Then, the film thickness distribution of a lubricant layer 15 on the magnetic recording disk 1 is observed and the quality of the magnetic recording disk 1 is determined based on the observed result.
